The DDS Definitions Appendix defines the terms and acronyms relevant to the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) service delivery system.

OCME

Office of the Chief Medical Examiner

Office of Attorney General (OAG) 

The Office of the Attorney General operates under the authority of DC Official Code § 1-301.111 and serves as the legal representative for all District agencies. The OAG ensures that all legal matters coming before the Court are appropriately addressed and, for the purposes of this policy, represents the Department on Disability Services in the Mental Retardation Court, Probate Court, Child Abuse and Neglect Court, Criminal Court, and other Courts within the District of Columbia.

Office of Rights and Advocacy (ORA)

The Office of Rights and Advocacy, in the Office of the DDS Director, maintains overall responsibility for the coordination of all of DDS's advocacy activities and rights promotion and protection activities.

OIG

Office of the Inspector General

One-to-One Staffing Services 

An allocation of staff that allows support persons to provide services exclusively to one, and only one, person with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities for a designated period of time. During that designated period of time, the one-to-one staff is charged with providing dedicated and continuous attention, support and services to that individual.

Open case 

One in which the service coordinator and the family are actively seeking to identify, locate and retrieve the supporting documentation needed for establishing eligibility for the individual.

Other Medication Error

Examples of medication errors are: a. The administration of medication in an incorrect form or dosage; b. An incorrect method of administration, or one which has not been prescribed or ordered; c. The failure to administer a prescribed medication for one or more dosage periods; d. Medication administered by unauthorized and/or improperly trained staff; and e. Medication administered at the wrong time (early or late).

Other Responsible Parties

As used in these policies and procedures, this phrase is meant to encompass the guardian, attorney and advocate of an individual receiving DDS-funded or arranged service as well as other individuals and entities that have a legal responsibility to monitor providers.

Outcome

means tangible results of goals that reflect the desired quality of life as defined by the individual.

Out of Region Provider

Is an agency that serves persons who are receiving DDA services outside of the District of Columbia and surrounding Maryland suburbs.
