2019 DC LatinX Conference on Disabilities 2019

As an outgrowth of DC’s Community of Practice on Cultural and Linguistic Competence (CLC CoP) and efforts to develop strategies to better engage Latinos with disabilities and their families, this day-long Spanish language conference will help agencies better understand the experiences and needs of the Latinos with disabilities community and raise awareness about available services and supports.

Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins 2019

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
