March 2023 is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Mayor Bowser Proclaims March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
Washington, DC— Wednesday, March 1, 2023, marks the beginning of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM). DC Mayor Muriel Bowser issued a proclamation celebrating the attributes and contributions of people with disabilities and reaffirming the District’s commitment to providing critical services that will eliminate barriers people with disabilities face in seeking employment and engaging with the communities where they live. This year’s theme, Through My Eyes, encourages residents to imagine their lives from the viewpoint of people with disabilities.

Throughout the month, the Department on Disability Services and the Development Disabilities Council (DDC) will partner with other organizations to present a series of events each week that reflect the history of disability services and highlight the positive impact people with disabilities make on businesses and communities across the city.
