Breaking Barriers to Employment for People with Disabilities

Breaking Barriers to Employment for People with Disabilities

On July 16, 2018, the Department on Disability Services held a World Café: Breaking the Barriers to Employment for People with I/DD. Participants included representatives from government agencies, youth transition specialists, educators, family members, self-advocates, providers, and advocates.

The purpose of the World Café was to provide the diverse representatives a brief picture of the national employment landscape, present DC’s current data and efforts in the area of employment and, most importantly, to gain vital insight and input upon which to gain reflections and ideas for strategic employment planning.

The World Café discussion topics were composed of five areas:

  1. Working within Systems
  2. Employer Engagement
  3. Workforce
  4. Unleashing the Power of Families
  5. Individual Planning
