Eligibility for services provided by the Rehabilitation Services Administration are based on the presence of a physical or mental impairment that creates a barrier to preparing for, obtaining, maintaining, or regaining employment.
At a high level, the following items are considered for eligibility:
- The physical or mental impairment constitutes or results in a substantial impediment to employment.
- The Individual's employment outcome can benefit for vocational rehabilitation services.
- The Individual requires vocational rehabilitation services in order to meet their employment goal
An eligibility decision will be made within 60 days after a client applies for services in most cases. Periodically, additional time may be required to further evaluate the Individual's eligibility. Clients who are currently receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for their disability are eligible for vocational rehabilitation services if they intend to secure employment.
