Program Highlights
Client Services Division
- Successfully placed 756 clients into employment.
- Received a Supported Employment Achievement Award presented by Johnson and Johnson.
- Three new vocational rehabilitation counselors with bilingual capability were hired.
- Social Security Reimbursement total $146,517.
- Our outreach efforts resulted in DHS/RSA serving 10,614 clients in FY 2003. This was an increase from 9,695 clients served in FY 2002.
- Successfully "rolled out" the Ticket To Work Program in partnership with the Social Security Administration. During FY 2003, 319 SSI and SSDI recipients applied for services that could lead to successful employment outcomes.
- Provided transition and employment services to 1275 youth with disabilities ages 14-21.
Disability Determination Division
- Maintained its position as one of the best performing Disability Determination Services in the nation with an accuracy of 97.0.
- There are 8620 Adjudicated Claims filed by residents of the District of Columbia seeking Social Security benefits.
Independent Living
- Independent Living Services for Older Individuals who are Blind served 235 legally blind clients.
- Served 110 individuals with significant disabilities assisting in services to become self-sufficient, remain in their homes and become active in the community.
POWER Program
- Served over 340 individuals, of which 239 became active clients in the vocational rehabilitation program.
Randolph Sheppard Vending Facilities Program
- Initiated a successful partnership with the US Department of Agriculture leading to an ongoing internship program. Eighteen persons with disabilities were placed in this internship program.
- Participated in meetings and subsequent walk-through at the National Archives and Records Administration for the construction of a replacement vending facility site.
- Participated in ongoing discussions with the Maryland Business Enterprise Program for the Blind and Earnest (contractor) in an effort to establish a contractual relationship to operate a cafeteria at the Washington Navy Yard Branch for the National Imagery Mapping Administration.
