Assistive Technology

Phone: (202) 589-0288           (202) 589-1260 (TTY)

People use technology to assist them in their daily lives. Assistive technology makes use of devices and techniques to reduce barriers and enhance independence for people with disabilities at home, school, work, and play. These assistive technology devices can include sound amplifiers, talking calculators, computer software and other customized or modified equipment.

University Legal Services Assistive Technology Program for the District of Columbia (ULS/ATP) is a citywide program whose goal is to enhance the public's understanding of the benefits of assistive technology and the role assistive technology plays in improving the overall quality of life for all individuals with disabilities.

ULS/ATP has joined forces with District of Columbia Department of Human Services Rehabilitation Services Administration to establish the District of Columbia Assistive Technology Resource Center (DCATRC). This center offers the public a place where they can participate in demonstrations of assistive devices, discuss their applications, and gain knowledge of products sources and services. The DC Assistive Technology Resource Center is a place to experience a variety of assistive technology devices and products.

The mission of the DC Assistive Technology Center is to improve the understanding of the benefits of assistive technology devices and services so that people can make more informed choices.

More information on University Legal Services is available from the Assisitive Technology Program for the District of Columbia.
