How Do I Become a New Provider of Developmental Disabilities Services?
A “provider” of services to persons with developmental disabilities may be either a licensed provider or a certified provider. The Department on Disability Services qualifies providers for the DDA Medicaid Waiver program. Interested organizations should refer to the waiver service descriptions and rules for detailed requirements and rates associated with each service under the DDA Waiver by following the links below.
An individual or organization may become certified to deliver day and vocational services such as Day Habilitation and Supported Employment, residential services such as Supported Living, Residential Habilitation and In-home Supports, and ancillary services such as Respite, Skilled Nursing, Behavior Supports, Occupational Therapy and Family Training.
Homes supporting four to six persons under Residential Habilitation must be licensed by the DC Health Regulatory and Licensing Administration (HRLA), or by the State of Maryland. The Department on Disability Services, Developmental Disabilities Administration must certify locations that provide Supported Living services to three or fewer individuals in the District of Columbia.
Applications are reviewed on an individual basis, and must include documentation that the applicant meets all qualifications and standards to become certified. Please refer to the rules for each service for specific requirements.
An individual or agency is prohibited from providing any service until certification is obtained from the District of Columbia Department of Disability Services.
